In praise of saltlakrits
In praise of saltlakrits
Liquorice is nice, but have you ever thought that maybe it just isn't quite salty enough? I know I have. So imagine my surprise and pleasure when I discovered that the Scandinavians had solved this problem by inventing saltlakrits.
Salty liquorice in the shape of Happy Herrings! Mmmmm!
I first came across this phenomenon in my Swedish class, and later discovered that you can buy them at IKEA in the UK. And there was much rejoicing.
There's a rumour going round that not everyone likes them. In fact, my fellow students hypothesise that saltlakrits is the Scandinavian equivalent of Marmite ; a taste that cannot be acquired by non-natives.
"Tish and piffle", I say. Oh, and "In that case can I have yours?"
